During his career as a Management faculty and head of several B-schools, Dr P V Desai presented research papers at several conferences and conventions. During that time, most of the research was related to subjects of academic relevance. In 1983, Dr Desai completed his Ph.D with research in Management titled as “Price-level Changes: Corporate Reporting and Managerial Decisions”. This started a new phase in research career which was marked by research on contemporary themes. Later on PLACON conducted several research studies for client organizations as a part of consulting work. Such research is mainly “action research”.
Dr Desai and PLACON have carried out research on a variety of topics which include social development, entrepreneurship development, globalization, Management education, case studies, management systems & strategy, infrastructure development, healthcare management, local self governments, strategic management, organizational issues and general management.
During this journey as a researcher, Dr Desai and PLACON have learnt that research-oriented mindset can contribute substantially to managerial effectiveness. The second conclusion is that for a management consultant, every professional assignment is a research project. And this implies that a consultant must be a good researcher.
